The Rush to Return to the Office Is Stalling

Microsoft, Paramount and other companies are stepping up calls to get back to the workplace. Many of their employees are still phoning it in.

Many big companies are ordering workers back to the office more often, but average office attendance has barely increased.
Some companies, such as Paramount and NBCUniversal, are giving employees ultimatums: Be in the office more often or take a buyout.
Many companies are struggling to enforce mandates, and some managers are unenthusiastic, while logistical snags also hinder efforts.
